Destroy your opponent’s Benched Pokémon with Decidueye ex!

Try playing this Decidueye ex deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket and leave your opponent’s Bench in disarray! Decidueye ex is one of the most underrated cards in the Celestial Guardians set. It’s basically a 170 HP tank that can snipe low-HP Benched Pokémon with its Pierce the Pain move which only costs two Colorless Energies.

Pairing Decidueye ex with the right cards can turn it into a monster in PVP matches. Here’s a good example of a competitive Decidueye ex deck that you can try — as long as you have the cards required!

This Decidueye ex deck is heavily inspired by the annoying Expert-difficulty build of the card in Celestial Guardian’s Solo Battle mode:

  • x2 Rowlet (Celestial Guardians set, Lunala pack)
  • x2 Dartrix
  • x2 Decidueye ex
  • x1 Fomantis
  • x2 Lurantis
  • x2 Professor’s Research
  • x2 Lillie
  • x2 Leaf Cape
  • x2 Rare Candy
  • x1 X Speed
  • x1 Poké Ball
  • x1 Pokémon Communication

How to play the Decidueye ex deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket

For this build, your ideal starting hand should at least contain one Rowlet, one Decidueye ex, and a Rare Candy.

Rare Candy is currently taking the metagame by storm as it significantly shortens the time for setting powerful Stage 2 Pokémon, like Decidueye ex. In case you don’t have any of the two bird Pokémon, you can rely on cards like Poké Ball and Pokémon Communication to fish them up from your deck.

Once you get Decidueye ex ready, keep spamming Razor Leaf or Pierce the Pain if there’s an opposing Benched Pokémon with damage on it. If you can also get Lurantis early on, you can easily deal Pierce the Pain and take any weak Pokémon that might become a threat later from the Bench.

Most of the supporting cards in the Decidueye ex deck list above are added for the purpose of either maximizing the efficiency of Decidueye ex or getting the cards that you need from your deck as soon as possible.

Professor’s Research, when used with Poké Ball and Pokémon Communication, can help you raise the odds of getting an early Rowlet or Rare Candy, while Lillie and Leaf Cape turn Decidueye ex into a high-damage meat shield.

Strengths

Decidueye ex deck may excel against decks that rely on Pokémon abilities that can trigger from the Bench, like those that use Greninja, Vaporeon, Giratina ex, or Gardevoir. This deck also gets type advantage from Ground-type Pokémon that use Fighting-type Energy, like Marowak ex, Mudsdale, and Lycanroc.

Weaknesses

Avoid playing this deck against Fire-type decks, especially any Charizard ex build or anything that uses Moltres ex. Also, you might get in trouble if you can’t draw Decidueye ex early in the game despite the help of Professor’s Research.
