We all have a favorite period of Overwatch. And what symbolizes that more than the Overwatch 2 main menu background, always there to greet us for months on end? If you prefer one more so than the others then it might be hard to give up your GOAT and see something new appear.
Until now.
Thanks to the work of Steam user SkyBorik we now have a way to change the Overwatch 2 main menu background to almost any of the past screens. Best yet, all you need to do is copy and paste a line of code. Let's get down to the nitty gritty and bring back LE SSERAFIM today.
Editor's note, 2/13/24: With today's Season 9 patch it appears a number of the backgrounds are no longer available. As with all things, your mileage may vary.
How to change the Overwatch 2 main menu background
The method for changing the Overwatch 2 main menu background works on both Bnet and Steam. We'll show both examples down below before listing out the background codes needed. There's also a full list of removed backgrounds at the bottom of the piece.
Making the change in Battle Net
On the game selection screen of Battle Net, navigate to Overwatch 2 and click the gear icon next to the big, blue 'Play' button. From here, you'll select the 'Game Settings' menu.
Click on the 'Game Settings' tab, then check the box next to 'Additional command line arguments.' This is where we'll put in our code line, which follows the format --lobbyMap=<Background ID>. The background ID corresponds to which Overwatch 2 main menu background you want, found below.
Making the change on Steam
The process for enabling background change on Steam is similar to Battle Net. Right-click on Overwatch 2 from your games list, then click 'Properties'.
Under the 'General' setting, head down to 'Launch Options.' This is where you'll put your --lobbyMap=<Background ID> string code.
