If you’re feeling a bit bloodthirsty while playing Oblivion Remastered, why not join the Dark Brotherhood?
Fancy yourself some murder? Well, the Dark Brotherhood is where you need to be in Oblivion Remastered. They are all about killing and sacrifice, so if that is your playstyle, join up. Just make sure you're skilled enough to not get caught.
You won't find a guild house or a recruiter walking the streets of the Imperial City, though. This one requires a bit of work to become a part of. Thankfully for you, we're here to guide you on how to get it done.
How you can join the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered
Depending on how your playthrough is going, you may never get a visit from the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered. That is because you have to commit cold-blooded murder. And that is outside of being part of a quest.
So, sneak into someone's house, follow them to an isolated area of town, or just decimate them in the middle of the street. Of course, there will be consequences depending on how you do it, but the important part is that you kill an NPC.
After you do that, go to an inn, rent a bed, and sleep. After a short period, your sleep will be interrupted and a member of the Dark Brotherhood, Lucien Lachance, will be by your side. Speak to him and either just listen or respond in an affirmative manner.
You'll receive a "virgin blade" known as the Blade of Woe, that has not yet tasted the blood of the innocent. You will also be tasked with a special objective in order for you to officially join the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered. That is the A Knife in the Dark quest.

Completing A Knife in the Dark
If you simply want to be left alone, then do nothing with this quest. Otherwise, if you want to join the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered, open up your map and look for the quest marker. You'll see the Inn of Ill Omen, just northwest of Bravil.
Fast travel to Bravil, hop on your horse, and head to the inn. Then just follow these steps to complete the quest:
- Enter the Inn of Ill Omen
- Speak with the owner to learn that Rufio is in the basement
- Take the hatch down and go to the furthest door
- Open it, sneak in, and kill Rufio
- Rent a bed at the inn and sleep
- Lucien Lachance will visit again, so complete the dialogue
The quest is done and you will join the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered. And do note, you don't have to kill Rufio with the blade you were given. That just makes it more fun and gives your playthrough some continuity.
