Here’s how to complete the Bruma Recommendation Mages Guild quest in The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Remastered.

The Bruma Recommendation quest in Oblivion Remastered is one of the Mages Guild quests you must complete to enter the esteemed Arcane University. However, like most side quests in the game, some of the quest objectives in this one can be slightly vague, and you may find it difficult to proceed at times.

Furthermore, the Bruma Recommendation quest is bugged in Oblivion Remastered, just like it was in the original. So, if you’re struggling to get past that, you’re in the right place. In this guide, we explain how to complete the Bruma Recommendation quest in Oblivion Remastered.

Bruma Recommendation quest — How to get Jeanne Frasoric’s recommendation

When you talk to Jeanne Frasoric about granting you a recommendation for the Mages Guild, she will task you with finding one of the Khajit students, J’skar. Sadly, she will not provide any additional information on how to locate him. Even if you persuade her to the brim, she won’t hand you the recommendation until you have located J’skar.

To begin, take the first right from the entrance room and head downstairs to the Mages Guild Living Quarters at night. Head to the first room on the left, and you will find Volanaro sleeping in one of the beds. If you look at the other bed, you’ll notice an invisible silhouette of none other than J’skar!

However, if you try to talk to him now, he will ignore you. Instead, you must persuade his roommate, Volanaro, to spill the beans on his apparition.

The maximum disposition for Volonaro is 73-78, so it won't be easy to convince him unless you decide to bribe him first. If you want a recap of Oblivion’s persuasion system, you might want to check our in-depth guide first.

Once you convince Volonaro, he will ask you to pull a small prank on Jeanne and steal her Manual of Spellcraft. If you bring it back to him, he will tell you about J’skar. Sounds simple, right?

Jeanne keeps the Spellcraft manual on her study desk, which you can find on the second floor of the Mages Guild. Make sure to go there at night, or else you might get caught while stealing it and get suspended from the Mages Guild.

You can either use a lockpick to open the desk or the Minor Latch Crack Alteration spell that Volonaro gives you. Once you have done that, steal the Manual of Spellcraft and bring it back to Volonaro.

How to fix the Bruma Recommendation quest bug in Oblivion Remastered

Now here’s where the Bruma Recommendation quest might get bugged for you, at least it did for us. When you talk to Volonaro after obtaining the Manual of Spellcraft, there is a slight possibility that he might not acknowledge it. If that happens, you won’t be able to progress the quest and get Jeanne’s recommendation.

Thankfully, the fix for the Bruma Recommendation quest is simple. All you have to do is restart the game or load up the most recent save. Doing that seemed to have fixed the issue for us.

Once you have given the manual to Volonaro, the Dark Elf will ask you to return to his room after 10 at night. Talk to him anytime afterward, and he will use a spell to make J’skar visible.

You can now speak with J'skar. He will tell you about how they got tired of Jeanne's pretentious nature and decided to play a trick on her. And that’s pretty much it! Head back to Jeanne’s room and tell her that J’skar is back.

She will mention something about losing a valuable item, but won’t suspect you of stealing it. Most importantly, she will agree to send a recommendation to Raminus Polus. All in a day’s work, right?

That sums up the Bruma Recommendation quest in Oblivion Remastered. For more Oblivion quest guides, don’t forget to check out esports.gg.
