Make your spellbook is positively popping with spells.

If you went with a mage build in Oblivion Remastered, then you're likely clamoring for more spell additions to your spellbook. Whether you're a Destruction, Illusion, or some other type of magicka user, you need a variety of spells to ensure you can damage enemies effectively and keep yourself in tip-top shape.

At the start of Oblivion Remastered, you'll have access to a few standard spells, and you might even pick up a few spell scrolls along your journey, which are one-time uses. However, those won't last you forever, so you need to add some new, permanent spells in the spellbook to keep you afloat as you continue to explore Cyrodiil.

Below, you can see exactly how to acquire new spells in Oblivion Remastered.

How to add more spells to the spellbook in Oblivion Remastered

Permanent spells are unlocked in a variety of ways in Oblivion Remastered. While you can acquire scrolls from looting or NPCs, those aren't the types of spells you want to rely on, as they expire upon use. Instead, you want to aim for spells that are added to your spellbook, giving you a chance to use them whenever you have the magicka available for them.

Those spells are acquired through two primary methods: purchasing them from an NPC or reading tomes.

Purchasing spells in Oblivion Remastered

For starters, the best spells in Cyrodiil are acquired through NPCs. If you visit the right NPC, usually a mage of some sort, they offer a huge variety of spells that you can purchase for gold by browsing their inventory. When you're speaking to a mage NPC, check the bottom-left of the dialogue screen. There, you might see a box that says "Buy Spells," which you can click on to see their inventory.

These spells cost a large amount of gold, as they're quite rare and usually can't be acquired in any other way. However, there are some "minor" spells that only cost between 30-100 gold, so you can buy them at pretty much any time. The NPC you're buying from also plays into what spells are available and how much they cost. For example, Carahil at the Anvil Mages Guild sells highly advanced spells for much more gold than you might see through a random merchant.

To find more NPCs to buy spells from, visit all major cities in Oblivion Remastered and check the local Mages Guild. The head of the guild should always have some spells available to buy. Other than that, look out for any merchant and see if they also sell spells.

Reading Tomes

The other way to acquire new spells in Oblivion Remastered is by reading Tomes that you find out in the world. These Tomes are usually lying in chests, but they can also be found as random loot across the map.

Tomes differ from regular books in Oblivion Remastered, as upon reading them, you immediately learn the spell from the Tome. For example, you can see below that I found the Decaying Taint Tome, and when I pick it up to read, the Decaying Taint is automatically added to my spellbook.

After you've learned the spell from the Tome, you can discard it from your inventory. To find more Tomes in Oblivion Remastered, simply explore the map, go on more quests, and check any chests that you come across, especially ones that require lockpicking.

And those are the two main ways to unlock new spells for your mage. Now that you've learned about adding to your spellbook, why not check out our other guide on how to download mods in Oblivion Remastered?
