How to unlock Brawl Stars Shade for free
Shade is an Epic Assassin brawler. This means you need 925 Credits to unlock him for free via Starr Road.
- Play Brawl Stars with different characters.
- Win matches and earn Trophies. Get Credits as rewards on Trophy Road.
- Level up your brawlers and earn Credits for this.
Time is needed to unlock Brawl Stars Shade for free. But he is an Epic character, so the Credit price is significantly lower than Mythic (1,900) and Legendary (3,800).
Also, you may want to spend your 169 Gems to pay for Shade. If you got them as a side bonus from a Brawl Pass, such as Halloween in Brawl Stars, you still do not buy Shade for cash.

Shade’s moveset in Brawl Stars: Explained
This Brawl Stars new brawler is probably a ghost hidden within some clothes. We can’t see the real form of Shade, and therefore this hoodie feels like the character’s body. Or maybe you see Shade as that cap or those cool glasses?
Another brawler, Gus, met Shade somewhere at the Ghost Station. Now, they are friends, and it would be pretty cool to take them as a team to a Brawl Stars match, like Duo Showdown.
The moveset of Shade in Brawl Stars nicely reflects the mysterious and ghostly nature of this new brawler.
- Basic Attack, Haunted Hug: Shade hugs his opponent. This sweet gesture comes with a side effect, as the brawler deals damage (by accident). The hug can penetrate walls, so it is difficult to avoid Shade’s attack. Clever players may try to put another opponent between Shade and their victim: they will also get damage.
- Super, Incorporeal Form: Brawl Stars Shade turns into a ghost to move around the map quicker and penetrate obstacles.
- Star Power 1, Spooky Speedster: A boost of movement speed happens after using the basic attack. You need to land the hug in a specific way: hit with the center of it.
- Star Power 2, Hardened Hoodie: The hoodie of Shade protects him during Super — 30% damage reduction.
- Gadget 1, Longarms: After activation, the next basic attack of Shade in Brawl Stars has a 50% bigger reach.
- Gadget 2, Jump Scare: The surrounding opponents get scared and move slower for 4 seconds.
- Trait: Like Juju, Shade can move through water areas.
The best Shade build in Brawl Stars
The exact build of this new brawler depends on how you want to play Shade.
- To emphasize speed of movement, take Star Power 1 Spooky Speedster and Gadget 2 Jump Scare. Good reaction and character control are needed to strike at the proper moments and then take Shade away from danger.
- To make the brawler more tanky and have more time for damaging opponents, take Star Power 2 Hardened Hoodie and Gadget 1 Longarms.
- As for Gears, Speed and Damage are good for a pure Assassin style of play. You can take Health and Shield to make Shade even tankier.
As a universally best build for Brawl Stars Shade, take Star Power Hardened Hoodie, Gadget Longarms, and Gears Speed / Shield.
Tips and tricks: How to play Shade
This new brawler lives up to his role in Brawl Stars. Shade is an Assassin, and you should play him as one.
- Quickly approach your opponents, attack them, and then run to safety. It’s an effective strategy with such a moveset.
- Actively use terrain and various obstacles to attack opponents — when they may not expect that. Remember the ability to move through water!
- Choose positioning wisely to damage someone in addition to your primary victim. Just place them in between Shade and the target opponent.
The general style of Shade is similar to other short-range characters, such as Edgar or Buzz. Teaming up with them may have a nice effect when you focus on one opponent to remove this danger quicker.
A long-range partner, like Brock or Barley, may be even more effective, as you combine two styles in your team and become more flexible in battles.
- Solo and Duo Showdown are good for Shade. He also can unleash his potential in Knockout.
- Gem Grab and Hot Zone may be difficult for this brawler. Long-range opponents will not let him stay in the active zones for long.
- Brawl Ball and Heist are quite universal, and you can find success with the Assassin style of Shade.
The next Brawl Pass season brings new skins and fresh themed adventures. Having Shade in them may boost your excitement and Ranked results. For all Brawl Stars news and updates, stick around on esports.gg!
