Here is our guide on how to rank up in Mobile Legends, offering MLBB ranked tips, discuss hero picks, and explain matchmaking logic.
If you’re hungry for real competition, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) has a ranked game mode where only the best of the best can climb to the top. The competitive ladder can be unforgiving at times, especially if you are playing solo. This is why we recommend always playing with a duo, trio, or go for a 5-man squad to maximize your chances of winning.
No matter if you're at Warrior and need to get out, or if you're reaching for Mythical Glory, knowing the Mobile Legends ranking system and how MMR works in the game is important to climb effectively. Additionally, you’ll also need to know about the ever-changing meta of the game.
In this Mobile Legends guide, we’ll break down rank tiers, offer MLBB ranked tips, discuss hero picks, explain matchmaking logic, and provide grind-efficient strategies to help you rank up.
Mobile Legends ranking system, explained
The rank ladder in MLBB is pretty straightforward. It consists of several tiers:
- Warrior
- Elite
- Master
- Grandmaster
- Epic (Entry to Draft Mode)
- Legend
- Mythic
- Mythical Honor
- Mythical Glory
- Mythical Immortal
From Warrior to Mythical Immortal, you can get promoted by winning matches and gaining stars. Once you reach the maximum stars, you rank up to the next tier or division. However, losing a match will reduce the stars you have by one.
Once you reach Mythical Immortal, there are no tiers or divisions to climb. Instead, you will keep grinding for stars and rise up to the competitive leaderboard.

A guide on how to rank up in MLBB: Tips and tricks you can take note of
Winning a competitive match is more than just playing with skilled players. There are a lot of ways you can increase your chances of winning. Here are some tips and tricks you can use as a guide to rank up in Mobile Legends:
Never play alone
Unless you are a professional esports player, there is no way you can hard carry your team 100% of the time. The solo queue system can be very unforgiving, especially if you are in higher ranks where players are mostly playing with a squad. Always avoid playing alone and team up with other players you know or have befriended in the game.
Play with people you trust
Playing with random players can be frustrating, especially if they don’t respond to your calls or pings. This is why you should try and play with your friends you trust. This way, you won’t have to second-guess their actions and simply follow up knowing they know what they are doing. If they don’t, then both of you can learn from that mistake and do better next time.
Communication is always key
If you are playing with your friends or squadmates, always communicate with them. This will allow you to have more map awareness and make critical decisions that really matter. You can’t expect your team to back you up when you dive for 1v5 without telling them beforehand.
Focus on objectives over kills
Getting the most kills in a match can be satisfying, even if it ends in a loss. You feel that you are the hard carry of the match just because your KDA is higher than anyone else. But that’s not really the case.
Kills don’t determine if you win or lose. The game puts heavy emphasis on objectives that your team needs to secure to gain the upper hand. Turtles provide Gold and a small buff for the early to mid game. The Lord can help you push lanes.
Taking down turrets allows you to gain map control over your enemies. Never focus on getting the most kills in the game. Always contest for objectives when necessary and help your teammates if they are losing their lanes.
Know the meta heroes in MLBB
Every major patch update can affect the meta changes in Mobile Legends. This is why it is best to check every now and then on tier lists and read through patch notes. This way, you won’t be caught off guard when your best pick is suddenly no longer viable in ranked games.
Fortunately, we have our own Mobile Legends hero tier list that gets updated every month and on major patch updates. Make sure to tune in to know which heroes you can use to dominate matches.

Best hero picks for duo rank games in Mobile Legends
Playing with someone you can synergize with can help you a lot to rank up in MLBB. It gets better if you can play heroes that also work well together.
This guide will showcase some of the best duo heroes you can use to rank up in Mobile Legends:
Cecilion + Carmilla
The Cecilion and Carmilla duo combo in MLBB is more than just because they are lovers in the lore. They also have a special ability that is only available if they are on the same team.
Cecilion’s Monlit Waltz can summon Carmilla and turn her into a ball of skill shot when she’s nearby and grant him a bonus shield. Carmilla can then choose to shoot herself in a target direction and gain the same shield effect, and slow enemies hit.
It’s a good special interaction for repositioning yourselves in a team fight. It can also be used to save each other during tight situations, as casting Moonlit Waltz will reset Carmilla’s abilities except the Ultimate.
Johnson + Odette
The riding on tandem duo of MLBB is Johnson and Odette. This is because Johnson can transform into a vehicle that Odette can ride on and roam around the map. They can then choose to hit the gas and slam into enemies to briefly stun them. Odette can follow up on this with her Ultimate that does a wide AoE damage.
Most of the time, you can wipe out entire teams with this combo. The only problem is when they bring Purify Battle Spell, or Diggie is on the opposite team. Nonetheless, if your duo is good at driving as Johnson, you can cheese your way into climbing up the rank ladder in Mobile Legends.
Hylos + Bane
Bane’s Ultimate ability can be a powerful crowd control and burst damage ability. However, the school of sharks he summons moves very slowly so enemies can easily dodge it just by dashing or walking to the side. This is where Hylos’ Ultimate can be a huge help.
When Hylos casts his Ultimate’s pathway, Bane can cast his Ultimate in this path to increase the movement speed of the school of sharks. It can catch enemies off guard, as they also get slowed when inside the pathway.
Angela + Ling
Angela is notorious for being the hero that “every duo’s girlfriend” uses in the game. But people often ignore the fact that this hero is legit strong when paired with a hard carry assassin or fighter.
The most popular hero paired with Angela is Ling, who can jump on top of walls and move super fast around the map. When the going gets tough, Angela can simply cast her Ultimate to her partner, and they can keep fighting with how much sustain this healer can provide.
Matchmaking Logic in MLBB
There are a lot of questions than answers as to how the rank matchmaking works in Mobile Legends. But here is everything we noticed while playing the ranked games:
- The higher your losing streak, the more likely you will be matched against “alleged” bots.
- The higher your win streak, the more likely you are to be matched with higher-skilled players.
- If you party up with other players, you will be matched against teams with the same party size. (A 5-man party will always be matched against another 5-man party.
Keep these in mind when playing ranked games. If you are not confident in your skills as a 5-man squad, consider splitting into two teams. If you get a bad losing streak, keep playing as you will eventually be matched against players who don’t talk in chat and have default avatars as profile images. It’s not confirmed if they are bots. However, that is always the case after a 3 or 4 losing streak.
