Check out our guide on mastering Zetian the mage hero in MLBB.

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang hero Zetian is a unique mage compared to other heroes of the same class. She not only offers massive burst damage and sustain with her Phoenix Strike and Phoenix Descent, but also map control with her Ultimate, Fury of the Phoenix.

Just when you think she can't get any better, her passive, Celestial Armament, can also knockback enemies who get too close and provide a temporary shield. She is a good counterpick for assassins who rely on their gap closers.

With that said, here is a guide on the new MLBB mage hero Zetian, including her best items, skills, emblem, combos, and counters.

Skill analysis for Zetian in MLBB

Passive: Celestial Armament

Her Passive has two effects:

  • Phoenix Crown: When Zetian hits enemy heroes with Phoenix Strike or Phoenix Descent, she gains a small amount of Spell Vamp for a few seconds, stacking multiple times.
  • Celestial Robe: The power of the Phoenix periodically shields Zetian from danger, knocking back and stunning any enemy hero who gets too close while dealing Magic Damage. She also gains a temporary Shield that scales with her level and Magic Power. This protective effect has a long cooldown.

Skill 1: Phoenix Strike

Zetian unleashes a Phoenix Wave in the target direction. If it hits an enemy, she automatically fires up to two additional waves in succession. While casting, Zetian gains a slight Movement Speed boost and can use other abilities.

Each wave deals increasing Magic Damage, with the final wave covering a wider area and pulling enemies slightly toward its center (note: this pull is not classified as a control effect).

Spell Vamp from this skill is reduced when hitting minions.

Skill 2: Phoenix Descent

Zetian summons a Phoenix Spirit at the target location, dealing magic damage and heavily slowing enemies caught in the initial blast. The Spirit hovers in place for a few seconds, periodically damaging nearby enemies and slightly reducing their Magic Defense.

While active, Zetian can recast the skill to send the Spirit charging to another location, dealing more magic damage and briefly slowing enemies upon impact.

Ultimate: Fury of the Phoenix

Zetian calls upon her divine mandate and the will of her people, granting a burst of Movement Speed to all allied heroes for a short time.

At the same moment, she invokes divine retribution upon all enemy heroes, revealing their locations, dealing significant magic damage, and briefly stunning them.

Zetian can freely cast other skills while channeling this ability.

To spam your abilities as much as possible, you need to build as much Cooldown Reduction as possible. Start with Magic Boots, followed by Enchanted Talisman for the extra mana regeneration.

Your next goal is a bit of sustain to stay alive in fights. Go for Concentrated Energy. If your enemy has a lot of sustain, go for Glowing Wand.

For late game, you can go for Wishing Lantern to melt down Tank heroes and Divine Glaive for the massive Magic Penetration.

If you don't need Glowing Wand or Concentrated Energy, you can exchange them for other items like Ice Queen Wand or Blood Wings.

For the first tier, equip Rupture for extra Adaptive Penetration. The second slot can be Bargain Hunter for cheaper item prices or Weapon Master for more base stat value from items. The third and final slot can be Impure Rage Lethal Ignition.

As for Battle Spells, you will most likely need to have Flicker for more mobility and escape options. If your enemy has a lot of Crowd Control effects, go for Purify.

Easy combo tips to learn

Wave clearing is one of Zetian's specializations. Your Skill 1: Phoenix Strike can easily clear waves in the early game. Once her Skill 2: Phoenix Descent is available, her clearing and poke potential gets even more powerful.

Zetian works best if you have allies who can vacuum and stunlock targets like Tigreal. Once your allies start a teamfight, immediately use your Ultimate: Fury of the Phoenix to reveal all enemy positions and stun them. Alternatively, you can use your Ultimate early to reveal enemy heroes to avoid ambush or force them to reposition.

Keep an eye out for the passive shield of her Celestial Armament. Its cooldown can be very long in the early game, so you will be vulnerable most of the time once an enemy gets too close and activates it. At the same time, this passive shield can also be a good safety net if you want to be more aggressive.

Hero and item counters for Zetian in Mobile Legends

Zetian has a lot of options for survival. However, she is not exactly invulnerable.

Hero counters

Despite her Passive effect, Zetian is still vulnerable to heroes like Ling, Fanny, and Nolan. However, this does give you a second chance to escape once they get knocked back.

Item counters

For Tanks, Radiant Armor is the best item to counter Zetian. Alternatively, you can also go for Cursed Helmet or Athena's Shield.

If you want to reduce her healing power, go for Sea Halberd for fighters and marksman heroes, and Glowing Wand for mages.
