Tokens are the key to upgrading your OVR
The moment you make your player in Road to the Show in MLB The Show 25, you're given 50 tokens to spend on attribute upgrades. Your attributes are directly tied to your player's strengths and weaknesses as well as their OVR rating. As you continue to play Road to the Show, you'll accumulate more and more tokens based on your overall performance.
However, when you first start playing after high school, you're unable to spend the tokens you receive. This can be quite frustrating, as you have tokens you earned for playing well but you can't use them to upgrade your player and boost that OVR number. Luckily, you don't have to wait long to start spending your tokens in MLB The Show 25, so let me show you how to do it.

How to spend tokens in MLB The Show 25 Road to the Show
After getting out of high school in Road to the Show, you'll have the ability to either sign with the MLB team that drafted you or sign with a college school. If you choose to go straight to the Majors, you'll be able to start spending your tokens right away. However, if you decide to stick it out in college, you have to wait until you're drafted again and go to your MLB team to start spending tokens.
Either way, once you're playing in the Minor Leagues for whatever team drafted you, follow the steps below to spend your tokens and upgrade your player's attributes:
- Go to the main menu screen for Road to the Show
- In the top-left corner of the screen, you'll see your player's avatar and OVR rating
- Right next to your OVR rating, you should see a tab that says "Tools"
- Click on Tools by using your D-Pad arrows and then pressing A/X
- Here, you can spend any tokens you have on one of five attributes
- Contact
- Power
- Fielding
- Throwing
- Baserunning
- Each attribute encompasses various skills that you can see by hovering over each one. You're able to upgrade each of these more specific skills by pressing X/Square
- You can also see what it costs to upgrade each attribute a single time
- When you have allocated your tokens the way you want, hold A/X to confirm and then your OVR may or may not increase depending on what attributes you upgraded
And that's all there is to spend your tokens on attributes in MLB The Show 25. You can keep track of your token count by looking at the top-left corner of the screen at the main menu.
As previously stated, you earn more tokens the better you play in games. However, you can also earn tokens through Dynamic Challenges, which occur at random points throughout games in Road to the Show. One token is earned for every 100 XP you get, so keep racking up those hits, steals, and strikeouts to earn more and more tokens.
