Unstable Molecules are the currency you need in Marvel Rivals for the game’s new costume customization feature.

Marvel Rivals introduced a new currency known as Unstable Molecules. They are a synthetic material discovered by Reed Richards and can easily change the color of a hero's costume, according to the lore. Well, you need these for the new skin customization feature in the game.

Of course, the title is free-to-play, so the ability to swap color schemes for your costumes does come at a price. You'll have to pay some premium currency to get your hands on this new one, but it does not appear to be staying that way forever.

In order to change the color of a character's costume, you first have to own it. So, buy the costume itself and then if it has a color variant, you can purchase that. Right now, there are only four costumes at the launch of this feature.

You select the hero, pick the costume, then go to Customize and choose the new color pallet. At that point, you'll be told to spend Unstable Molecules in Marvel Rivals. Currently, the only way to do so is pay with Lattice.

Lattice is the game's premium currency, which means you more than likely have to spend money to get it. There are events and the Battlepass which provide Lattice, however, so you may have some saved up and won't need to spend actual money.

Either way, Lattice can be exchanged at a 1:1 ratio for Unstable Molecules in Marvel Rivals. Then it costs 600 of the new currency to unlock the alternate color. This means turn 600 Lattice into 600 Unstable Molecules and you've got yourself a new color for your favorite costume.

Are there other ways to obtain Unstable Molecules?

The feature arrived on April 17, 2025. At that time, paying with Lattice to obtain Unstable Molecules is the only way to collect the new currency. The developers did state that new methods to acquire the currency will arrive with Season 3.

That means we'll have to wait until mid-July 2025 for these to potentially be awarded through events, challenges, or even in a new Battlepass. We'll update you whenever we know more about other ways to get the Unstable Molecules.
