A common error that is plaguing plenty of PC players in Marvel Rivals.

Marvel Rivals has finally fully released and while the launch has been relatively smooth sailing to start, there are a few issues with the game. One of the main problems PC players have been running into in Marvel Rivals is an error message, which reads: "DX12 Not Supported."

This error prevents players from playing at all, which is obviously extremely frustrating. While this has been a general problem on PC since the early alpha stages of Marvel Rivals, players have developed a few temporary fixes. You can see what those fixes are in the guide below.

What is the DX12 Not Supported error in Marvel Rivals?

The DX12 Not Supported error tends to pop up soon after you launch Marvel Rivals on PC. After you get past the start screen, the error will appear on your screen, forcing you to exit the game and try to launch it again. Usually, the error won't go away if you simply restart your application once or twice.

This has been a known issue for a while in Marvel Rivals and the developers at NetEase Games have only acknowledged the error in an FAQ on the game's website. However, the developers have never issued a patch to fix the error, as the problem appears to lie in the engine the game was built on. As such, it seems like it's on the player to fix the error themselves.

Fixes for the DX12 Not Supported error

According to the FAQ, the way to fix the DX12 Not Supported error is as follows:

To resolve this issue, please update your Windows 10 64-bit operating system to version 1909 or later and make sure your graphics card driver is up to date. Additionally, verify that your graphics card meets the minimum requirements, which include an NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 580.

Naturally, players have tried to update their version of Windows to the version the developers recommend along with updating their GPU's drivers but still see the error message persist. If you fall into this crowd, there are only a couple of fixes you can potentially try to solve the problem:

  1. Restart your PC - It sounds simple, but some players have reported this makes the error go away for a decent amount of time.
  2. Verify game files on Steam - You can ensure you have no corrupted Steam files by going to your library, finding Marvel Rivals, right-clicking, selecting "Properties," then "Manage Files," and finally "Verify Integrity of Games Files." This process takes a few minutes but can clear up any game problems.
  3. Uninstall and reinstall Marvel Rivals - This is usually a last-case scenario, but something that needs to be done if you've exhausted every other option.

The one fix you don't want to try is switching your game to DX11 in the settings. This will not work, as DX11 is not compatible with Marvel Rivals and will not make your game run better.

Hopefully, the developers can find a way to solve the DX12 Not Supported error aside from telling players to update Windows and their GPUs.
