New to Marvel Rivals? We’ve got you covered with some tips and tricks!

Marvel Rivals has taken the world by storm. The competitive hero shooter caters to all, from the hyper-competitive gamer spamming ranked to your casual Marvel fan wanting to battle with their comic heroes.

Those familiar with other hero shooters such as Overwatch will understand Marvel Rivals quickly. But there are plenty of mechanics and tricks that separate the two. Here are a few basic tips that every Marvel Rivals player should know before diving into the game!

The tips and tricks you'll need to get started at Marvel Rivals

Mobility and positioning is key!

As with any hero shooter, you don't want to be caught out of position. Very rarely will you be able to take on an enemy team alone, so look around and take note of your teammates' locations before jumping in, especially as a damage-dealer.

It's also a great idea to get to know any unique mobility skills your Marvel Rivals character has. Rocket Raccoon, for example, can scurry up walls and glide while mid-air, making him unpredictable and tough to attack!

Practice a new hero before diving in

This point is an extension of what we discuss above. Get to know how each hero works before diving straight into ranked!

Marvel Rivals comes with a pretty complete practice tool against bots, but the best practice comes from using the hero in a live match. Head into a Quick Match and play a couple of rounds. Once you've got a feel for what the hero's strengths and weaknesses are, then jump into ranked.

Use the whole map — but don't go it alone

From hidden underpasses to destructible walls, there's always an alternate pathway to an objective. If you're stuck on offense as the enemy as tightened a hold on a chokepoint, or if you're looking for a way to flank when on defense, be sure to use the entire map to your advantage!

The teammate rule still applies. Use the in-game ping notification system to let your allies know where you're going, and only go it alone when you know you'll have backup once you swoop into battle.

Prioritize your targets

During battle, pick your targets properly! Is there a Wolverine or Spider-Man targeting your healers? Focus as a group and take them down first. Do they have a solo tank? Cut off the tank from their healers and bring them down!

It's all well and good to go for the bigger enemy because they're easier to hit, but sometimes it's better to look beyond the front line to the squishier supports. Without heals, the rest of their damage-dealers won't be able to sustain through long team fights. Take down the supports, isolate the tanks, and group up to defeat the DPS in order to win.

Team Up abilities can't be underestimated

The key mechanic that sets Marvel Rivals apart from other shooters is Team Up! Pair together your favorite heroes and combine different team comps for the bonus abilities, which enhance one or several heroes at once.

Jump onto Groot's shoulders as Rocket, or enhance Magneto's melee attack with Scarlet Witch. Pick a combination of Asgard's heroes for an instant revive or health bonus on-kill, or pick members from the Fantastic Four for a damage resistance buff. The combinations are plentiful and act as a great way to bridge the lore of the Marvel universe plus provide competitive advantages in-game!

That's all for now! Dive into Marvel Rivals today and stay tuned to esports.gg for more news and guides.
