Take a look at our five best Vanguard heroes you can play in Marvel Rivals, so you know which character to learn and master.
Tank damage, stall a push, and punish overzealous enemies. That's what the best Vanguard heroes do in Marvel Rivals. The roster is definitely lacking when you compare it to the Duelist role, but they are essential for any team.
More and more will be added to the game, so we'll update the following list accordingly. Just know, that these are the best Vanguards in Marvel Rivals and if you see one with a Lord icon, hope they are on your side.
Ranking the 5 best Vanguards in Marvel Rivals
Each Vanguard each hero in Marvel Rivals has their own unique skillset. Some have shields that can block off enemies and the damage they deal. Others can deal massive damage while guarding chokepoints. So, let's go over the best ones.
5) Hulk
The Incredible Hulk is a hard character to pick up, but once you master him, you're going to rule games. He can get in and out rather quickly for such a large beast. And with that comes huge damage, a shield that can spread to allies, and one other trick.
That's his team-up ability with Doctor Strange and Iron Man. It gives them gamma powers. Now, it doesn't boost himself in any way, but it adds two supporting pieces of his team that can help him dominate enemies he catches separated from the rest.
4) Magneto
Magneto is definitely one of the best Vanguard heroes in Marvel Rivals, but not because of his team-up. It's great, but not worth putting Scarlet Witch on the team. So, look towards his space taking capabilities and sustainability for your reason.
He can put up a shield, place a bubble around his body, or even send that bubble to a teammate. His base attack does splash damage and his Alt-Fire attack can push enemies backwards. Then you've got his Ultimate which can take out a group of enemies and snatch up any projectiles sent to him during its windup.

3) Venom
Venom is a scary creature to come across while playing Marvel Rivals. Your Strategists and long-range Duelists are not safe. His ability to dive in and out while gaining a large shield based upon the health he has last is just plain nuts.
If you play as Venom, you can surprise enemies with his diving strike. Then trap them with a grabbing attack, which deals a burst of damage if they don't escape in time. He's a fast-paced nightmare that truly requires a focus from most of the team to take out.
2) Groot
I am Groot. I am Groot! That means he's a damage eating monster. His arms have surprising range to dish out hits, with an exploding seed bomb to pair it with. Not to mention his walls that can be used in a myriad of ways.
He's also probably the best Vanguard hero in Marvel Rivals to setup other heroes with their Ultimate. Groot's Ultimate grabs enemies within range and pulls them to the center of it, dealing damage over time. While they're trapped, Namor, Moon Knight, Iron Man, and countless others can drop theirs on them for maximum effectiveness.
1) Doctor Strange
There's no doubt that Doctor Strange is the best Vanguard character in Marvel Rivals. Get up close to pair his melee with his base attack for an incredible amount of damage output. Then pop his shield to retreat for heals. Rinse and repeat.
If that isn't enough, he's got the portal that can send enemies off the map or clutch up in overtime to get your team back to the objective. His Ultimate stuns enemies for a brief period, allowing teammates to clean up some eliminations. Overall, he does everything all of the other tanks do, and well.
