Everything you need to know about the new gamemode coming to League of Legends.

Riot Games recently announced a new game mode is coming to League of Legends on July 20. Arena is the highly anticipated 2v2v2v2 mode that Riot has been planning to introduce to the MOBA for a long time. The new game mode coincides with the upcoming seasonal event, Soul Fighter. Esports.gg is here to tell you everything you need to know about Arena - when it will be coming to League of Legends, what the mode is, and more.

League of Legends Arena mode release date

Arena will be officially coming to the game on July 20 which aligns with patch 13.14 which is set to be released during that time period. League of Legends Arena is currently live on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) as of June 27. This should give players more than enough time to familiarize themselves with the mode ahead of the epic launch.

How does Arena work in LoL?

Arena is a round based 2v2v2v2 mode that sees players break into pairs - players can queue for Arena solo or by pairing up with another player. Each round will have a buy phase and a combat phase. This allows players to gear up before the next fight. In the buy phases, players will get the option of selecting an augment or items via the gold they have earned.

In each combat phase, players will fight 2v2. The key to victory is very simple, you defeat the other pair and you retain your health. If you lose then a portion of your health is removed - TFT players should be very familiar with this system. Along the way, powerful "Soul Fighters" will be dropped into the arena during the combat phase.

Augments in Arena work very similarly to how they work in Teamfight Tactics. During certain buy phases, players will get the option of selecting one of three Augments, these buffs are separated into three tiers; Silver, Gold, and Prismatic. Each Augment provides players with a unique buff that will alter the way they play the game. Riot Games confirmed new summoner spells will be introduced with the Augments in Arena.
