All Highguard wardens: Characters and abilities

Wildlight Entertainment's Highguard title features characters, also known as "wardens," at launch. Ahead of the Highguard release date, esports.gg had the chance to test them out and capture screenshots. Read on for a closer look at all of the playable Highguard characters.

There are eight Highguard characters at launch. These are Atticus, Condor, Kai, Mara, Redmane, Scarlet, Slade, and Una. Each warden gets a tactical ability, a passive, and ultimate plus some official flavor text that offers a glimpse into their backstory.

In Highguard, Atticus is a wielder of lighting. He's also a descendant from an ancient bloodline and trained from a young age to later become a renowned war hero. His dying father gave him a mysterious key and tasked him with finding a hidden place tied to an ancient evil.

Condor is an explorer who uses her extrasensory abilities and winged guardian to track down her foes. As one of the most sought-after treasure hunters in Headwall, wants to explore Highguard and uncover its secrets.

Next, Kai is a monk who wields ice to defend and protect others. He shares his power with a Frost Beast demon named Rime. Raised in the frozen Wetlands mountains, Kai focuses on defense while managing his inner demon. His goal in Highguard is to find answers as to why his and Rime's souls were forged together.

As for Mara, she's a conjurer who absorbs and repurposes the souls to shield and support her allies. She uses shadow magic, which means power over life and death. She also volunteered to become a warden for The Iron Vigil. Her true intentions and the origins of her magic are unknown.

Redmane is a barbaric enforcer who uses his bestial strength against his foes. He draws power from animals and absorbs their traits into his own body. He's one of the most feared Wardens in Highguard, and he's on a mission to clear his departed partner's name.

Scarlet, meanwhile, is a trained assassin who wields wind and sand to flank and infiltrate enemy bases. She used to be a princess from the desert kingdom of Essence, but she left her throne to serve as a warden for The Iron Vigil. She now takes on missions to protect people in need while searching for her lost mentor.

As for Slade, he can melt his enemies with magma from below and firestorms from above. Life on the streets taught him to survive by any means. His fiery powers and combat skills earned him connections with crime lords and pirate captains as well. Now, he’s in Highguard as a warden for some extra coin. Unlike the other playable wardens at launch, Slade has two passives.

Finally, Una is a spirit binder who can summon the spirits of the Wildwood. She has a deep connection to life, death, memory, and the spirit world. She left her dying forest home in search of a way to save despite being in permanent exile.
