RuneScape is coming to consoles for the first time.
Jagex recently announced RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a survival crafting game with traditional RuneScape elements. It is set in Ashenfall, a vibrant open world torn apart by vicious dragons and their leader, the Dragon Queen. RuneScape: Dragonwilds will first launch on Steam via early access. Sadly, that means it won’t be available on the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X/S for a while.
If you’re a console player who likes to sink hundreds of hours in survival crafting games, this is probably not what you wanted to hear. Thankfully, Jagex has provided insight into the PS5 version of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, and it’s mostly positive.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds' PS5 version will launch in 2026. According to a report by IGN, Jagex hopes to launch Dragonwilds on console later next year. However, we don’t know which console(s) they're referring to.
Early access games on consoles aren’t common, but they are not non-existent, either. Disney Dreamlight Valley is a prime example, which initially launched as an early access title on all platforms. Multiversus also received a similar treatment.
As such, the PS5 version of RuneScape: Dragonwilds could just be its early access version at launch. That said, if Jagex waits a year to bring this game on consoles, it could just straight-up launch with 1.0.

When RuneScape: Dragonwilds arrives on PS5 and other systems, it will be the first time a RuneScape title will be officially playable on consoles. Surprisingly, there’s quite a demand for it.
Dragonwilds’ introductory video on YouTube, as well as the Steam listing thread on the RuneScape subreddit, have several comments from players asking for a console port. Some even suggest putting RuneScape Dragonwilds on the Xbox Game Pass. Hopefully, Jagex will have more to reveal about the game’s console port in the coming weeks or months.
