The game doesn't explicitly tell you how to change your ship name, but it is super simple. Here are the steps to do so:

When on your ship, or another player's ship, go to the Ship Management terminal

Stay in the first tab that automatically opens

Select the Change Ship Name option to the right

Select a prefix and a suffix for your ship name in Helldivers 2

Hit the Apply Name button to confirm it

When you load into the game or join up with a friend, your ship will arrive and the name appears on the side of it.
