Fortnite’s new update allows you to enter a Star Destroyer and eviscerate your opponents below. Here’s how it works!

Fortnite's latest and final update of the Star Wars-themed season has given players the chance to enter a Star Destroyer. It functions similarly to when Epic Games allowed players to temporarily become Godzilla. That means you must be swift to pilot the Imperial spaceship and rain fire upon those beneath.

This article outlines everything you need to know about the new Star Destroyer mechanic and how you can enter the ship's gunner seat.

How to become a Star Destroyer gunner in the new Fortnite update

This is easily one of the more difficult tasks in Fortnite, given the number of players in a given game looking to accomplish the same. However, we have some strategies you can utilize to increase your chances of entering the Star Destroyer that we will cover later.

The first thing you should know is that, as of this update, a Rift will appear on the map once the first Storm Circle closes. You will want to open your mini-map and locate the "Star Destroyer" icon, as shown in the image above. After the Rift spawns, you must be the first player or team to enter it.

If you're second, third, or fourth in Solos, it's already too late, and the ship is likely already raining fire on the players beneath. Those lucky enough to locate and enter the Rift first will teleport to the Star Destroyer's gunner seat.

Your perspective will shift to what is depicted above, where you can shoot the ship's laser at everyone down below. A timer of 1:20 will appear at the top of your HUD, meaning you will remain in the Star Destroyer for one minute and 20 seconds.

Tips and tricks to be the first to reach the Rift

While the process may seem relatively straightforward, you are competing against a maximum of 99 other players to reach the Rift portal first. As a result, we have outlined some key strategies to keep in mind.

Have mobility in hand

First and foremost, you should find a car, TIE fighter, or X-wing and keep it with you at all times. This will allow you to access the Star Destroyer Rift quickly. You can also find a tall mountain with a Launch Pad and remain there until the first Storm Circle closes. Shockwave Grenades can also be helpful here.

Stick near the middle of the map

In our limited experience, the Rift often spawns near the middle of the map. A good spot to land is Foxy Floodgate, since it's the point of interest (POI) closest to the center and offers Launch Pads for mobility. Otherwise, as mentioned in the previous tip, try to land on a mountain with a Launch Pad.

Grab as many Shockwave Grenades as possible

A full stack of Shockwave Grenades would be beneficial for those rushing to the Rift. Beyond the ability to boost yourself, you can also potentially prevent opponents from entering the Rift first.

All in all, it definitely won't be easy, especially considering the power bestowed upon those who enter the ship first. That doesn't necessarily mean it's impossible. A combination of the tips and tricks above, mixed with your dedication to Fortnite, should result in you inevitably entering the Star Destroyer!
