Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 introduces the Hero Rank system. Like a Tier List, S tier is the best, but this article explains everything!

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 is just a few hours from arriving worldwide. Epic Games has officially unveiled everything players can expect when the "Super" season arrives. As with most seasons, this superhero-themed season features one new mechanic, called Hero Rank, that is paramount to the experience.

This article delves into this feature, including its functionality and the best ways to utilize it during your Chapter 6 Season 3 adventure.

How does the new Hero Rank system work?

The Hero Ranks range from C to S and reset at the end of every match. Each time you begin a game, you start in C tier and can progress through the ranks throughout. You can progress through these ranks by completing heroic deeds.

Those heroic deeds are as follows:

  • Eliminating enemy players
  • Surviving Storm phases
  • Taking a Sprite to a Shrine
  • Eliminating henchmen

Before covering what each Hero Rank entails, it's worth noting that for Duos, Trios, and Squads, you will share one rank amongst your team. Additionally, each time you rank up, you will gain 100 effective HP and access to Hero Caches.

As you improve your Hero Rank, you will gain access to specific Hero Caches. The loot and items contained in these Caches depend on your rank. For example, Rank C Caches, which are available from the jump, offer Uncommon items and the potential to find a Boon.

Conversely, a Rank S Cache, which is the highest, offers Legendary loot, a guaranteed Boon, and a Hero Item. There is also an S+ rank. Once you reach that rank, you will receive any Boons you are missing.

The S Tier Caches are where you will want to be every match, considering you will have access to Hero Items and the newest Exotic weapons introduced this season. Those include the following:

  • Unstable Yoink Shotgun - Pulls enemies toward you with the first shot in each clip
  • Unstable Voltage Burst Pistol - The first and final shots in each clip create a shockwave effect
  • Unstable Frostfire Shotgun - Successfully landed shots alternate between a "Pepper" effect for you and a slowdown effect on the opponent

Lastly, on being Rank S, all Boons are at their best when you are at the highest rank. For example, the Storm Caller Boon replenishes Shield at its base level. Those at Rank S will receive the Storm Forecast benefit to be able to tell where future Storm Circles will pull.

What are Hero Items?

We mentioned Hero Items earlier, and this topic warrants further exploration. You can find these items in Hero Caches and beyond. Some are available from the beginning of Chapter 6 Season 3, with others due to join later on.

  • Tracking Visor - Tracks all players nearby, including their footprints.
  • Bass Boost - Generates a wave of sound that destroys structures, damages opponents, and bounces enemies backward. The secondary fire launches the user in the air.
  • Surf Cube (coming later this Season) - A surfboard used for mobility.
  • Storm Beast’s Pom Poms (coming later this Season) - Turns you into a Storm Beast with high-damage attacks and a Storm Slam ability.
  • Myst Form (coming later this Season) - Briefly transforms you into an invulnerable flock of shadowy ravens that can maneuver a short distance. Fuses together with Myst Gauntlets to become Ascended Myst, which has higher damage and longer-lasting invulnerability.
