But do players need some type of online subscription to actually play the Battle Royale? Do Xbox players need Xbox Live or do PS5 players need PlayStation Plus to play the game?
With the game available on every popular platform, many wonder if it truly is a free-to-play game or not.
Can you play Fortnite without Xbox Live?
The simplest answer is no, you cannot play Fortnite without Xbox Live if you are an Xbox player. In fact, you cannot even queue into the lobby without Xbox Live.
Even to play Creative, you have to have an Xbox Live subscription, which is $10 a month or $60 a year.
The same goes for PS4 and PS5 players looking to play Fortnite. You must have a subscription to PlayStation Plus if you want to play the Battle Royale. A PlayStation Plus subscription ranges from $10 a month to $80 a year.
Fortnite is also available for Mobile, PC and the Nintendo Switch. So do players need an online subscription to play on those platforms? No, you do not.
Many gamers have upgraded from Xbox and PlayStation to a PC for a better frame rate and zero subscription fees.
While playing the game on Mobile is free, you still have to think about data costs and more if you are not on wifi.
