Either your calculations are wrong or you don’t know how Tormentor works. Let’s fix that while going through some iconic clips.

First, let's do the nostalgia thing: It's been more than a year since Tormentors were introduced in Dota 2. A lot has changed since the 7.33 patch update, in Apr. 2023. Tormentors are harder to kill now, and do a lot more damage if you try to take on it one-on-one. So, if you think you can pick Dazzle, bring five couriers, and get an easy shard; think twice.

The Tormentor received two crucial buffs that made it a massive menace in Dota 2. You can't hang around him, and you will never give him negative armor. Doesn't matter how many items you have, picks you stack, or bad reviews you leave in Steam.

Tormentor will never again suffer from negative armor, what a chad.
Tormentor will never again suffer from negative armor, what a chad.

But you're not dying because of this. Let's be honest, even pro players are still falling for Tormy's charms.

By the way, Dyrachyo's death not only costed them a late game Roshan, they also had to use his buyback. Many think this was the main reason they lost this game, and were eliminated from DreamLeague S22. Then, why did Dyrachyo die to the tormentor?

  • On level 25, you can choose a talent to throw three daggers with Phantom Assassin.
  • Dyrachyo was on Tormentor's range when he tried to farm with his dagger.

And, why are YOU dying to Tormentors in Dota 2?

Honestly, it's hard to tell if we haven't played together. However, there are many reasons people die while trying to get the sweet, free shard. But this is not a guide on how to get them easier, since we already did one months ago. Here, you'll understand the basic knowledge on why we make mistakes. Why we keep taking teamfights near the big box of cruelty.

1. You underestimate its damage

In Dota 2, Tormentors deal damage depending on how much they're taking. You want to call as many teammates as possible, but remember you're also going to be severely hurt. Kill it fast and run away. If you can't, at least move around when you're taking it down. You never know how unlucky you are.

2. You're bad at maths

Tormy is available 20 minutes into the game, and it respawns exactly 10 minutes after being killed. He has no RNG respawn timer like Roshan. Knowing this —if you're taking the first one, you should know how important it is to calculate how much damage you have, and how many teammates you need to kill it.

You THINK you have enough damage, but are not 100% sure? Then you don't have enough damage. If you're not full HP, and it's early game, you don't have enough damage. If you hesitate, you don't have enough damage. Trust us, you DON'T. HAVE. ENOUGH. DAMAGE.

3. You're a streamer

Yeah, Tormentor hates Dota 2 streamers. Enough said.

But I want to take Tormy down...

As previously said, this is not a guide on how to take Tormentor effectively, while grinding some sweet Dota MMR. However, we can't hide this gem from you. YouTube small content creator "Dota 2 Skill Showcase" did the math to let you know how farmed you should be with certain heroes to solo the Tormentor at the twenty-minute mark.

This short video will help you better understand how to take the Tormentor down on the most recent patch.

  • Alchemist: With Radiance and Manta Style, plus a defensive item like Assault Cuirass giving extra attack speed, you can take Tormentor down. Remember to use the Acid Spray and Chemical Rage.
  • Beastmaster: You'll depend on controlled units to take some of the damage, and the Beast mode facet to buff your attack speed.Works best with Vladimir's Offering and Helm of the Overlord, don't try it without this item upgrade.
  • Juggernaut: Maxed healing ward and stats + attack speed. If you don't have this, better call a friend instead of soloing Dota 2's Tormentor.
  • Lone Druid: There are many builds that will work to solo the Tormentor. Here, and Orchid Malevolence + Diffusal Blade worked. But build them on the bear, not on you.
  • Meepo: Aghanim's Scepter with and item like Gleipnir should be enough. And of course, bring all your Meepos. Leaving one at home just in case won't work.
  • Templar Assassin: Desolator and Dragon Lance should be more than enough. Spam refraction and maybe don't use Meld too much, you may receive more damage than you want.
  • Troll Warlord: Okay whatever items you have here, USE YOUR ULT ON TIME. Don't just start with Battle Trance, wait until you're almost dead to maximize it.
  • Ursa: Like the video says, wait for the Overpower cool down to use it twice. You'll be severely damaged after, so careful with Zeus.

There's some ways to do it with Slardar too, and also a lot of heroes will be able to solo the second or third Tormentor if they had an easy Dota game and got fed. But these are some of the best examples.

Just be aware, loneliness is Tormentor's favorite treat. You don't want to feed the angry box.

But if you're feeling like feeding, please feed us with your time by checking the most recent news and guides on esports.gg!
