It has barely been a week since Dota 2’s newest patch 7.38 was released, and one hero is already ahead of the pack.
With the release of Dota 2's patch 7.38, there was a host of heroes who seemed as though they would take over Wandering Waters. Slardar was thought to become an unkillable threat with all the new changes to the river, but that has yet to happen. Instead, Dragon Knight (DK) is the one to be flying ahead, with some interesting changes to the hero.

A Fire Dragon is your friend in Dota 2 patch 7.38
Since the new patch entered the game, DK has become quite the formidable hero, with the Fire Dragon Facet taking center stage. While he was an average pick in patch 7.37, with Frost Dragon having the most success by a small percentage, the reworked Fire Dragon has now taken over Wandering Waters and patch 7.38. With the inclusion of an insane area of effect (AoE) stun from Dragon Tail and even more AoE from Wyrm’s Wrath, DK has one of the biggest winners of the patch.

A few days after the patch was released, DK had a diabolically high 83.6% pick rate and a massive 73.4% win rate. This was even documented during DreamLeague Season 25. Dominik “Lacoste” Stipić brought up the hero and its dominance during a section of the broadcast, which can be seen here.
Although these numbers have balanced out a bit since then, DK is still a monster that is ruling the patch.

Item choices and variations
When it comes to item builds, not a lot can go wrong for DK. Players have been picking up the usual Power Treads, before following up with Sange and Yasha, Blink Daggers, Daedalus, Aghanim’s Scepter, and even Satanic to close things out. However, there are more choices, too – with Black King Bar, Silver Edge, Assault Cuirass, and Mage Slayer thrown into the mix at times.

While Armlet of Mordiggian and Mask of Madness make the extensive list, they have both come in a bit lower with win percentages.

Patch 7.38 is still extremely new, being out for less than a week now. This means that there is still a whole lot of time for new heroes to make their way to the top. When it comes to professional tournaments such as the ongoing DreamLeague Season 25, DK is only at a 50% win rate, with 32 picks. While we might see this change during the short playoffs, right now could be the best time to take advantage of DK in your pub games.
