Souls are the currency of the game and you want to maximize your farming capabilities.
Souls form the currency in Deadlock and are required for any upgrades in the game. Even though it is an FPS, it is also a MOBA. So as the game progresses into the late game, your item choices become crucial to determine your team’s strengths and weaknesses. And to make these item choices, you need souls. Here’s how to get souls in Deadlock.
How to get Souls in Deadlock?
There are many ways to earn souls in Deadlock and it’s not just killing creeps. If you are a MOBA player, you will understand this concept much better, but fret not if you’ve never played a MOBA in your life. Here are the ways you can earn Souls in Deadlock:
- Lane Troopers
- Jungle Troopers
- Enemy heroes
- Lane Objectives
- Map Objectives
Lane Troopers
Lane Troopers are the first combat experience you will have in Deadlock. A couple of times every minute, a new wave of lane troopers (creeps) come out of the enemy spawn. They come to the fight zone and will combat. Similar to how it works in MOBA, these lane troopers will try to advance towards the lane objectives. Ofcourse, the heroes form the crux of the damage and their combat will determine the balance of power in the lane.
Each wave has three ranged troopers and one healer trooper. For the first few minutes of the game, you will receive 75 souls irrespective of the type of trooper you have eliminated.
It is important to note that for the first ten minutes in the game, heroes get souls in two different manners. The division of souls is as follows:
- Killing Troopers (50%)
- Securing Souls (50%)
So for the first ten minutes, you can get 50% of the souls for killing a trooper. After a trooper dies, the soul will float above him for a few seconds. If you manage to hit that soul as well, you ge the remaining 50% of the souls. However, if the enemy hits the souls, then they are essentially stealing these souls away from you.
After ten minutes into the game, 100% of the souls will go to the one securing the souls. You do not receive any souls for killing troopers, instead you have to ensure you are securing the souls. Ofcourse, if no one secures the souls, then they go to the team that got the final frag.
Tip: Use melee to secure the soul directly instead of having to shoot the soul again.
Jungle Camp
Jungle Camps are spread throughout the map and heroes can target these jungle camps to get more souls. Jungle camps come in different tiers of difficulties and you have to choose jungle camps based on your strength and power.
Jungle camps provide unsecured souls. While the souls will be added to your soul total, they will decrease over time. If you die while holding unsecured souls, the unsecured souls will drop on the ground. Enemies or allies can then pick them up.
Jungle creeps have different-tier camps. The three tiers of jungle creeps are distinguishable as follows:
Tier | Spawn Time | Icon | Base Souls | No. of Camps |
---|---|---|---|---|
Tier 1 | 2 minutes | Triangle | 45 | 6 |
Tier 2 | 7 minutes | Triangle with one line underneath | 95 | 25 |
Tier 3 | 7 minutes | Triangle with two line underneath | 240 | 240 |
Tier 3 camps also spawn at the seven-minute mark, but they are high health and high damage. They also drop a lot of souls. Tier 3 camps are determinable by a triangle with two lines underneath. Tier 3 camps usually require high level or multiple heroes to take them down.

Soul Machines
You can also earn souls via the soul machines spread through the map. You can hit them melee or you can shoot your weapon to get some souls. Melee attacks earn 20 souls while taking 50 damage for each hit. The machines break after hitting them with ten normal melees. Once they break they release 200 souls.
Brown Crates
There are also various brown crates scattered throughout the map. You can shoot these boxes to get a chance of finding souls. The souls in these boxes will vary depending on how far into the game you are.
Heroes
You can earn souls by killing the enemy heroes. The heroes give away differing amounts of souls depending on the value of the bounty on them.
Lane Objectives - Get more Souls in Deadlock
Lane Objectives not only help you gain a significant advantage in the lane, but they also give your team a soul boost if you manage to take down a significant milestone. There are three objectives in each lane
- Tier 1 Guardians
- Tier 2 Walker
- Tier 3 Dual Guardians
- Two Shrines
- First Phase of The Patron
- Urn
- Kill the Mid Boss
The mid boss spawns in the game at ten minutes. It is very much like a Big boss in the game and you would need your teammates to take it down as well. The Mid boss drops significant portion of Souls which would be a massive boost to the entire team - a total of 1750 souls.
