Learning how to flank and when will help you win Deadlock games.

In Deadlock, players are fighting in different lanes for much of the game's duration, but an underestimated part of the game's strategy is flanking, or ganking as it's otherwise called. This is the act of leaving your own lane to sneak up on an enemy in a neighboring lane, hopefully securing a sneak attack kill. Here, we're going to look at the best heroes to flank with, timing a good flank, and overall strategy.

Best Flanking Heroes in Deadlock

In general, heroes with high mobility are going to be the best ones to flank with, due to their ability to get from place to place the quickest. However, heroes with good stuns and crowd control can also be great. In general, here are some of our favorite flankers:

  • Kelvin
  • Infernus
  • Wraith
  • Viscous
  • Lash

All of these heroes are great roamers and may grow to have more of a jungle role, if you are familiar with League of Legends or Dota, in which they fight neutral minions and go from lane-to-lane on flanks. But, you can't just flank anytime, despite how mobile your hero might be.

When to flank in Deadlock

In Deadlock, you need to time your flanks based on objective timing in the game, or based on where your minion waves are. For example, if you are pushed back and fighting under your Guardian, it's probably not the time for a flank.

Below are some times and situations to keep in the back of your mind for flanking in Deadlock.

  • When your lane is pushed up and a neighboring lane is getting bullied and struggling to get Souls
  • When the 2:00 and/or 7:00 minions spawn
  • If the enemy team picks up the Urn and begins trying to deliver it
  • If you see a team fight beginning to happen in a nearby lane, just make sure you won't get there when its already too late

In the late game, you'll see a lot more mobility and flanks coming into play as the map gets more and more free to roam. So, be sure you are keeping an eye on good opportunities to get some good flanks in and make your move!
