Katowice 2023 format

There are three stages to IEM Katowice 2023 - the play-in Stage, the group stage, and the playoffs.

Play-In stage (February 1-3)

The play-in stage will feature a double-elimination bracket. 16 teams start the play-in stage but only eight teams will advance to the group stage. Only the initial matches are all best-of-one series while the remaining matches, including the elimination ones, are BO3.

Group stage (February 4-7)

The group stage will once have 16 teams, eight from the Play-In stage and eight directly-qualified teams. In this stage, however, the teams form two groups of eight teams each. The groups follow a GSL format where all matches are Bo3.

The group stage will seed three teams each to the playoffs. The top team in each group advances directly to the semifinals. These two teams will have to play one less match, so the reward is quite high to top the group stage. The next two teams will advance to the quarterfinal, the group runners-up as the High Seed and the 3rd place team as the lower seed.

Playoffs (February 10-12)

Finally, the IEM Katowice playoffs will see only six teams in the competition. The group winners from the group stage will have advanced to the semifinals. Meanwhile, the remaining four teams will compete in the quarterfinals. All matches, except for the Grand finals, will be best-of-three series. The Grand Finals will be a best-of-five series.
