CS2 vs VALORANT player count – which game has more players?

VALORANT and Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) are two of the most popular games around right now with very high player counts. They have some key differences, but also a lot of similarities. They are both round based first person shooters, with an overall similar vibe. A lot of players play both games, but some are fiercely loyal to one game or the other.

But, which game currently has more players and what are the current player counts for both CS2 and Valorant put head to head? Here's everything you need to know.

Seeing the player count for CS2 in 2025 is easy, thanks to the game being avaliable on Steam. Steam publishes a range of player data, updated in real time, for games on the platform.

You can see this data on Steam Charts. CS2's highest peak player count in 2025 so far is 1,818,368 and the game is averaging over a million players across each day.

Encouragingly for the game, CS2's player count has a clear upward trend too. This time last year, in 2024 CS2 averaged 885,630 players a month. That is now up to over a million, and seems to show no sign of slowing down.

For VALORANT, seeing how many players the game has is a lot less easy. The game is not avaliable on Steam, and Riot Games (who make VALORANT) do not actively publish player data.

What we do know about VALORANT's 2025 player count comes from tracker.gg, who monitor all players in the game and can aggregate this to produce a number. While this is going to be broadly accurate, VALORANT data isn't as reliable as the Steam Charts figure for CS2's player count.

According to tracker.gg VALORANT averages about 5,000,000 players per day, slightly higher than this at the weekend, and slightly less on a weekday. The highest ever player count recorded by tracker.gg for VALORANT is 6,861,264.

Unlike CS2, VALORANT's player count isn't really trending at all. The game has had about the same number of players every month since 2022, and isn't gaining or losing players each month in a notable way.

So, when put head to head VALORANT currently has a higher player count than CS2. This is by quite a significant margin. VALORANT also has a much higher peak player count.

However, CS2 is trending in an upwards direction. If this continues or picks up even more steam then CS2 might get closer in player count to VALORANT. Regardless, both games are amongst the most popular games anywhere in the world and in great health.
