Wanna warm up on Deathmatch in CS2? Here’s a short read before you hop on.

Deathmatch in Counter-Strike 2 is a popular way to warm up or prove you're better than a lot of players at the same time. Here's how you can start playing Deathmatch in CS2 and other things about the game mode you should know.

Generally, Deathmatch has two modes: Free-for-all (FFA) and Team Deathmatch (TDM). In Free-for-all, everyone else in the lobby that isn't you is an enemy. In Team Deathmatch, only the opponents from the opposing team are enemies.

How to play Deathmatch in CS2

Click Play, Matchmaking, then select Deathmatch in the top bar. You will then be presented with four map options:

  • Defusal Group Sigma pool
    • Train, Vertigo, Ancient, Overpass, Mirage
  • Defusal Group Delta pool
    • Inferno, Nuke, Anubis, Basalt, Edin
  • Dust II
  • Hostage Group pool
    • Office, Italy

Upon selecting a pool and clicking "Go" at the bottom-right of the screen, matchmaking will commence. If you want to play Deathmatch against bots instead, select Practice instead of Matchmaking.

Note that in CS2, the only version of Deathmatch available is Free-for-all. There are no primary objectives, meaning you don't have to plant or defuse, or rescue hostages - you simply need to click heads.

Joining Third-Party Servers

You can also join third-party servers in CS2. These servers are hosted by the community, and can be found using community server browsers. To connect to one, make sure your developer console is turned on first.

From the community server lists, grab the IP address and the port. Then, open the console and type:

  • connect [IP:PORT]

to begin connecting to the server. Note that this comes with a certain degree of risk since these are hosted by players and not by Valve.

Deathmatch mechanics in CS2

Each kill grants varying points, depending on which weapon you used.

For every three-kill streak in a single life, you are granted a Medi-Pak, which will restore your health, but not your armor. You can only hold one at a time.
