Point Blanks are back and they’re as painful to get as ever in Black Ops 7.

If you're going for the Mastery Camos in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer, then you'll eventually have to earn over 200 Point Blank kills. These are a requirement for the base shotgun camos, as Treyarch decided Point Blank kills would be easier for shotguns over headshots. While this decision is debated amongst fans, you'll need these types of kills if you want to get your shotguns gold and earn Singularity in Black Ops 7.

So, what are Point Blank kills, and what's the best way to go about earning them in multiplayer?

What are Point Blank kills in Black Ops 7?

For starters, Point Blank kills are earned when you kill an enemy at extremely close range. The rule of thumb is that the barrel of your gun needs to be touching or right near an enemy's body when you kill them for the kill to count as a Point Blank.

There is a little wiggle room with that rule, as sometimes the game will be generous with the distance of a Point Blank kill. You'll know you've earned the kill when you see the "Point Blank" medal appear at the top of your screen after eliminating an enemy.

As you use shotguns more and understand the distance better, you'll get a much stronger idea of what is a Point Blank and what isn't.

Best way to earn Point Blanks in Black Ops 7

Now that you have a better understanding of Point Blank kills, let's go over the best strategy to use when going for them in Black Ops 7. For the most part, you'll be using a shotgun when going for the kills, so that's what we'll be basing the strategy on, but this should also work for any gun in multiplayer:

  • To start off, equip the shotgun/weapon you're going to be using for the Point Blank kills, and try to equip any and all mobility attachments. This will help with getting shots off quicker at close range
  • You also want to equip the following perks:
    • Perk 1: Gung-Ho
    • Perk 2: Scavenger
    • Perk 3: Cold-Blooded/Tracker
    • Perk Greed: Ninja
  • In addition to your perks, you want to equip a Smoke Grenade, as throwing that will help disorient enemies and allow you to get next to them so you can earn a Point Blank kill. If you have it unlocked, the Contact Fuse Overclock (level three) is great since the grenade blows up as soon as it hits the ground
  • For your Field Upgrade, go with Active Camo if you have it unlocked (using a Permanent Unlock Token helps immensely). Going invisible will allow you to slip by enemies unscathed
  • Once your class is set up, you can go into any core playlist, but Nuketown 24/7 or an objective game mode are the best options.
  • Hardcore modes aren't recommended, as enemies can kill you too quickly before you get near them
  • When playing, throw your Smoke Grenades, flank around enemies, and slide before getting into engagements. Doing all of this will ensure the best possible chance to get right next to an enemy so you can kill them
  • If you find an enemy head-on, try sliding or wall jumping in quick succession to make them miss shots and give you time to get close to them
  • You can also wait around corners and doors for enemies so you can kill them at close range once they run into you

There are multiple strategies you can implement for Point Blanks, and you'll find that the map/mode you're playing greatly affects which strategy is the best. As you play, though, you'll learn the best ways to go for these kills.
