Avowed: Can you keep Garryck and Ilora as companions?

Do your early friends get to come along for the ride?

Within the first hour or two of Avowed, you can potentially have two companions fighting alongside you. Garryck, the blue, furry shipmate that crashed on the beach with you is an automatic companion from the first moments of the game. Then, sometime later, you can recruit a woman named Ilora onto your team, giving you a pretty full party already. However, as you soon learn in Avowed, Garryck and Ilora don't stay in your party for too long.

After the events at Fort Northreach, Garryck and Ilora leave your party when you arrive in Dawnshore. So, the question is, can you get either companion back in your party in the future?

Can you keep Garryck and Ilora as companions in Avowed?

Unfortunately, Garryck and Ilora are not full-time companions and you can never get them back in your party in Avowed. There are only four total companions in the entirety of Avowed, and you meet one of them, Kai, shortly after saying goodbye to Garryck and Ilora. The other three companions come later, with one not showing up until you're around 15-20 hours into the story.

Garryck and Ilora can only be a part of your party for the Fort Northreach section of the game. Once you say your goodbyes after getting off the boat in Dawnshore, they'll leave your party for good. However, this doesn't mean they don't show up later in Avowed.

You can find and talk to Garryck again at the Aedyran Embassy in the heart of Paradis, which is the main hub city in Dawnshore. While the conversation doesn't last long, it was nice to see Garryck again after I thought he would never show up once we departed on the docks. That was the only time Garryck popped up during my time in Avowed, but it's possible you can find him elsewhere too.

As for Ilora, if you decided to free her back in the prison of Fort Northreach, you can stumble into her again during a side quest in Dawnshore. The side quest involves trying to smuggle citizens out of Paradis and Ilora actually puts in a good word for you during the quest, which saves you some money and makes the outcome easier.

Aside from those moments, though, Garryck and Ilora are fairly small characters in Avowed. So if you got used to seeing them at the start of the game, all you'll have going forward are memories of the pair.
