Are your skills set in stone in Atomfall?

Atomfall features three dozen skills for your character to acquire throughout the course of a playthrough. These skills fall under four different categories, and you have to find different Training Manuals scattered across the maps to unlock new skills in each category. You can spend points to acquire the skills you've unlocked in Atomfall, but is there any way to respec the points you've spent?

The term "respec" is a term that means to reallocate skill points you've already earned and spent. Most RPGs allow the ability for a character to respec their skill points, but there's often a cost associated with this action. Respeccing gives players the chance to test out different builds for their characters by acquiring skills they didn't own previously.

So, is the ability to respec skill points available in Atomfall? You can find the answer to that question in the guide below.

Can you respec skill points in Atomfall?

Despite Atomfall not technically being defined as an RPG, it has elements of the genre, and many players expected the ability to respec. However, that's not the case, as Atomfall does not offer a respec feature in the skills menu. This means you are unable to earn back the skill points you've already spent and reallocate them differently.

This is definitely an interesting choice by the developers, but one that feels intentional and with a purpose behind it. Since Atomfall doesn't give you all of the available skills by default, you're forced to make tough choices as to what to spend your points on. After all, skill points are difficult to come by, so spending them wisely is simply a part of the game's flow. You can see how skill points are acquired in our previous guide.

If you want to blow all of your points on early game skills, then you might not have more points to spend later on better skills, which ties into the overall harsh gameplay loop of Atomfall. However, if you're patient and don't every point you have, you're able to acquire those better skills for the late game.

When it comes to how you spend your skill points, I suggest only going for the essentials during the first five to six hours. Then, after you've made some progress in the main story, you should have access to more skills in each category, and you can decide from there what to spend points on. The later-tier skills in Atomfall aren't game-changing by any means, but there are some that you'll definitely want to have points for, so it's best to ration your points for a majority of the game.

While it's unfortunate that there's no respec feature in Atomfall, it does make sense from a gameplay perspective. The developers want your choices to have some meaning behind them, so if you blow your points early on, you'll have to pay the consequences later.
