Change up your look without swapping gear

Assassin's Creed Shadows features no shortage of gear for you to find and equip. From katanas to trinkets, your inventory will be overflowing with gear options in the first few hours of the game. Of course, once you find the singular pieces of gear you want to equip, you don't really have a need for everything else you've found. Fortunately, even though you might not want to equip some gear in Assassin's Creed Shadows, you are able to use it for the transmog system.

The transmog system allows you to keep the same piece of gear you have equipped, but swap its appearance for something else you've already found. This allows you to customize the look of Naoe or Yasuke but also have them equipped in the best possible gear. To see how to use the transmog system in Assassin's Creed Shadows, read the guide below.

How to unlock the transmog ability in Assassin's Creed Shadows

At the start of Shadows, you won't have the ability to swap the appearance of your gear. Even though you'll own quite a few katanas, headpieces, and full armor, the only action you have with the excess pieces of gear is to sell them or store them at your Hideout.

That changes after you construct the Forge at the Hideout, which is done through the Way of the Blacksmith quest. You unlock this quest soon after building the Hideout and your initial task is to find the blacksmith in Sakai. After you do that, you can return to the Hideout and construct the Forge for the blacksmith.

Upon doing this, you'll gain the ability to transmog gear for Naoe. This means you're able to swap the appearance of any equipped piece of gear for the appearance of another gear piece you've previously collected.

To transmog gear in Assassin's Creed Shadows, all you have to do is head into your inventory, select the gear section you want to change, and then hover over your currently equipped gear piece. Press the "Visualize" button that pops up at the bottom of the screen and you'll be able to change the appearance of that gear.

You can only choose from gear pieces you've already collected in the past, but you're not required to have those gear pieces in your inventory. Selling them or storing them still gives you access to their transmog appearance option.

When you find the gear you want to change your gear's appearance to, simply select it and your character will don a new look. You can transmog all weapons, headpieces, armor, and horses. As you continue to collect new gear, their appearances will all be added to the transmog options for that gear category.
