All you need to know about the Overwatch League Summer Showdown

Here’s all you need to know about the Overwatch League Summer Showdown.

The Overwatch League 2021 season is currently underway in full swing. Dallas Fuel won its first tournament in the May Melee and Shanghai Dragons dominated the June Joust event. As Overwatch fans await the start of the Summer Showdown, esports.gg brings a comprehensive guide to the third event of the season.

When is the Overwatch League Summer Showdown?

The Overwatch League Summer Showdown will take place from June 25 to July 18. Matches take place on Friday, Saturday and Sundays every week. Overwatch fans can check the full schedule here.

What is the tournament format?

The tournament will have three weeks of qualifiers. The League has divided the teams into the East and West region. The top six teams (West) and four (East) teams qualify for the regional knockouts.

The regional knockouts will feature a single-elimination format. The knockouts feature 10 teams (six from West and four from east). The top two teams from each region will qualify for the tournament weekend. 

The tournament weekend will be a double-elimination format with four teams.

Summer Showdown Hero Pools?

The Overwatch League Summer Showdown will not have any hero pools. All heroes will be available during this tournament, allowing teams to bring out some innovative strategies.

Here is the map pool for the Summer Showdown tournament:

  • Control: Busan, Ilios, Lijiang Tower, Nepal, Oasis
  • Escort: Junkertown, Route 66, Watchpoint: Gibraltar
  • Assault: Hanamura, Temple of Anubis, Volskaya Industries
  • Hybrid: Eichenwalde, Hollywood, King’s Row

OWL 2021 Trade deadline

Blizzard also announced the deadline for player trades for this season. They have set the trade deadline at July 29 at 6 p.m. PT. After the deadline, teams cannot make any player trades for the rest of the season. OWL teams can still sign free agents, but player trades cannot take place after the deadline. 

London Spitfire and Paris Eternal will face off against each other in the tournament’s opening match.
